It’s been a very busy four days for me!
On Thursday we left at 4am for the long drive up to St. George’s Park in Burton Upon Trent for a training day with the YRDA. The day comprised of seminars and physical training. And I was lucky enough to bump into Gareth Southgate!!
On Friday we left at 5.30am and drove to Arden with my sponsor, Kevin, for Sim training. We tested at Estoril and Donington, where I set some blistering times.
It was another early start on Saturday, leaving home at 5am, heading up to Whilton Mill. We had a few problems on Saturday with brakes and a blown engine but we came back stronger on Sunday. From the random three heats we had some great finishes putting us on second for the final. Heat 3 was particularly good, one of my best Senior driving performances to date.
From the three heats: Heat 1 - 18th to 7th Heat 2 - 2nd to 2nd. Heat 3 - 30th to 6th.
Final - 2nd to 3rd.
In the final, I took the lead on the opening lap after a restart and led the race for 90%. However
my tyres started to go off towards the end, and I was overtaken with two laps to go, demoting me to 3rd.
It was an awesome weekend, another podium, making it five out of six Senior races on the podium. Overall a great weekends racing!!
It is refreshing to have moved from juniors to seniors where there is more emphasis on driver performance, rather than engine power.
I would like to thank everyone who helped me over the last few days, the YRDA, Croc Promotion, Grice Racing engines and in particular Kevin and Sarah Griffin from Griffin Dry Lining.
